Explosion Proof Seals

An explosion proof seal, or line bushing, is essential for industries in which there is a risk of explosion caused by flammable fibers, dust, or gases. RHSeals line bushings are commonly used in industries such as oil, gas, automotive, and aerospace. Our seals can withstand explosions that may be necessary due to the materials or environment, such as gas fumes with a high risk for combustion from an electrical or non-electrical source.

Line bushings are used to connect equipment in an environment with a high risk of explosion. This connection is usually established between a flameproof “d” enclosure and an increased safety “e” terminal box, but line bushings can also be used to connect two flameproof enclosures to protect cables from direct contact. This creates access to important switches or terminals.

A line bushing is comprised of a threaded or non-threaded sleeve that encapsulates one or several cores for a completely flameproof, waterproof, and gas-proof barrier. Depending on the application, an explosion proof seal can be used in safe, measuring, energy, or control circuits. Non-threaded, or pluggable, line bushings are preferred when there is a pre-assembled connector or something mounted at the strands which can be connected to the terminal in the increased safety enclosure. With the pluggable version of the line bushing, sizes are adjusted to those of threaded or screwable line bushings.
